I've had my 24 VW Taos for about 7 months now and the engine light popped up. is this normal to these models?

Its normal to all cars, that simply means something needs to be maintained or basically theres something wrong. You can have it checked by the dealer, theyve got this scanner that can lead to its specific error code.

Is the light just steady or is it flashing? bec flashing light usually means something more urgent. Have you been able to get the error code read at an auto parts store or a mechanic?

Well... seven months in, that light shouldn't be on unless something's definitely off. Yes do bring it back just to be safe. Go for it while it's still under warranty.
